Power Reduction of MEMS Shutter Display by Temporal Smoothing of Image Signal

(in English) Power reduction method for MEMS shutter display employing the bit plane gray scale expression method has been proposed. By smooth the bit plane signal temporally, opening and closing frequency of the MEMS shutter decreases, resulting in power reduction. In order to suppress color shift due to the smoothing, color difference between the original image and smoothed image are calculated and the number of smoothing bit plane are adjusted in each pixel. Simulated experiments shows 19.8% reduction of the opening and closing frequency of the MEMS shutter when the acceptable color difference is AA class and maximum number of the smoothing bit plane is 3.
