Effect of two-dimensional FIR filter for TDMR

(in English) A two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR) which combines the shingled magnetic recording (SMR) and two-dimensional signal processing is expected as a technology to realize the higher recording density in hard disk drive (HDD). In this report, we investigate the mitigation effect of ITI by two-dimensional equalization using two-dimensional finite impulse response (TD-FIR) filter by SMR simulation using the granular medium model. The results show that the correlation between the equalized waveform and the information on the adjacent tracks is reduced by TD-FIR filter, and it means the ITI is mitigated by TD-FIR filter. Furthermore, it is clarified that the mitigation of ITI from both side adjacent tracks provides a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement of about 0.6 dB at equalizer output.
