Characteristics of Distribution Equipments for UHDTV Satellite Broadcasting Reception

(in English) Test satellite broadcasting of UHDTV started on August 1st, 2016. In 2018, practical satellite broadcasting of UHDTV will begin by using the right- and left-hand circular polarization in the 12-GHz band. For satellite broadcasting reception, a low noise block converter of a receiving antenna converts the 12-GHz band receiving signals to the intermediate frequency (IF) and the IF signals are transmitted with coaxial cables or optical fibers. ARIB STD-B63, which is the standard for UHDTV satellite receivers, standardized the currently used IF (1032.23 to 2070.25 MHz) and the left-hand circular polarization IF (2224.41 to 3223.25 MHz). STD-B63 also defined the specifications of a fiber optical transmission system for the IF signals. Therefore, we fabricated and tested a satellite signal amplifier and an optical transmission system, which are able to transmit the right- and left-hand circular polarization IF bands. By using 50-wave IF modulated signals, we evaluated the required C/N from measured results in bit error rate of ISDB-S3. The evaluation results confirmed that the C/N degradation of the fabricated satellite signal amplifier and the optical transmission system were 0.3 dB and 0.1 dB, respectively.
