The relationships between affective dimensions and the adjectives used in the semantic differential method -- Measurement by the Affect Dots --
Nami Nishiguchi, Jiro Gyoba (Tohoku Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been reported that three main factors are extracted by the semantic differential method; Evaluation, Activity, and Potency. This study focused the characteristics of the factors in relation to the affect space defined by two dimensions; “pleasant-unpleasant” and “arousal-sleepiness”. In the affect space, we measured the locations of the adjectives representing each main factors mentioned above, using the Affect Dots method newly developed in the present study. The results revealed that adjectives representing Evaluation and a part of Activity have clearly fixed locations in the affect space. It suggests that Evaluation factor has stronger relationships with the affect system than Activity or Potency factor.
