Study on Device Performance of Photo-Aligned LCDs using Polymer Surface Stabilized Method

(in English) Currently, IPS and FFS display modes are known to show extremely-high quality images due to an in-plane motion of LC molecules in the display modes. For realizing further high-quality images, the application of a Photo-Alignment (PA) method to these display modes has been extensively studied so far. However, the weak surface anchoring nature of the PA method comparing to a conventional rubbing method impedes a wide usage into the LCD production process. The purpose of this study is to improve the weak anchoring nature in the PA method by using a Polymer-Surface-Stabilized (PSS) method. We demonstrate the proposed method to improve the weak anchoring nature in the PA method resulting in low image sticking by showing experimental results doing under various conditions of sample fabrication.
