Influence of substrate surface materials and liquid crystal/monomer solubility on lattice-formed monomer aggregation

(in English) To realize the flexible liquid crystal displays, it is necessary to sustain the cell thickness in a curved state. For this reason, the formation method of polymer wall using photopolymerization by a patterned UV exposure through the photomask is proposed. However, in this method, remained monomer in the pixel degrades the electro-optical characteristics. To overcome the issue, we proposed a novel technique of morphological control of monomer utilizing wettability on substrate and change of LC/monomer solubility by temperature. In this sturdy, we examined the influence on monomer aggregation into a lattice-like form by substrate surface materials. As a result, we showed that morphological control of LC/monomer is possible on surface-patterned fluororesin and polyimide.
