Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors theoretically derived an expression of the temporal resolution limit of photoelectron conversion layers3). By substituting parameters specific to Silicon to the expression, the temporal resolution limit of silicon image sensors is estimated as 11.1 ps for the temperature of 300 K and incident green light,  = 550 nm. In the process of the derivation of the expression, the relating elements were set to minimize the temporal resolution. Therefore, if a high-speed image sensor is designed, following the theoretical consideration as strictly as possible, the resultant sensor realizes the highest frame rate achievable by using the current technology. A simple pixel model of an image sensor is designed according to the strategy and evaluated by simulation. It turned out that the sensor will achieve 50 ps.
