A Note on Image Retrieval based on LRGA Algorithm for Insect Identification -- Varification of Retrieval Accuracy Improvement based on Data Augmentation --

(in English) This paper presents a similar image retrieval method using a ranking algorithm for insect identification.
In the proposed method, visual features are extracted from insect images, and the local structure in the feature space is considered by the LRGA ranking algorithm, and images similar to the query image is presented to the user.
In order to further improve the retrieval accuracy, visual feature extraction with higher representation capability is performed.
Specifically, we expand the image data by data augmentation, and re-train the convolutional neural network (CNN) pretrained with general images.
Then we perform similar image retrieval by applying the LRGA algorithm to the features extracted from the hidden layer of the retrained CNN.
We show that the obtained visual features improve the retrieval accuracy compared to features extracted from the conventional model learned with general images.
