Development of a Real-Time Processing Non-Linear Video Editing System for Full-Resolution 8K 60P Television Programs

(in English) A non-linear video editing system capable of real-time processing and reproduction of 8K video with full resolution (4:2:2) and progressive scanning at 60 Hz (60P) was developed for use in 8K television program production. Unlike with conventional HDTV video program editing, current system are incapable of real-time processing and reproduction for 8K baseband video streams edited with transition effects such as ‘wipe’ or ‘dissolve’. To solve this problem, the developed editing system was adopted the structure which divided an 8K video signal into four signals for real-time image rendering and processing. Using the prototyped system, the performance tests were carried out on two combined 8K video streams edited with transition effects and superimposed text, and the edited video streams were successfully reproduced. The editing system can be practically used for 8K program production at broadcast post-production facilities.
