The effect of body posture on mental spatial transformations.
Nozomu Kageyama (UMC)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been reported that the mental transformation ability rely on not only visual perceptional cues but vestibular cues. Owing to previous studies, there is a fair chance that the mental transformation ability is affected by the participant’s body posture. However, it has not been investigated whether the body posture has an effect on the mental transformation ability. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine that the effect of the participant’s body posture (upright, lying right side down) on mental spatial transformations using the Mental body rotation tasks (MBRTs). The RT and correct rates for MBRTs were changed by the difference of the participant’s body posture. From these results, we suggest that the body posture affects the mental spatial transformation ability.
