Study on principle of broadband polarization conversion by bow-tie type metasurface

(in English) In this paper, the authors discuss physical insights of a metasurface that converts polarization orthogonally. The proposed structure consists of periodic unit cell of bow-tie shape which has a length of 1/3 wavelength, a width of 1/4 wavelength, and a thickness of about 1/8 wavelength. Polarization conversion is performed by synthesizing polarization radiated from the slot and currents on the patch at low frequencies. On the other hand, at high frequencies, polarization conversion is performed by polarization due to the current on the patch. 95% or more of the incident wave power is reflected and converted to crossing polarization at right angle in broad bandwidth of 36.4% at 8 GHz.
