Development of an IP transmission device for DTT relay stations enabling construction of SFN

(in English) The digital terrestrial television (DTT) network from a TV Studio to a relay station is built using a private radio link such as microwave. In the radio link, propagation failure is caused by fading and rain attenuation exceeding the assumption. Therefore, SD (Space Diversity) reception system etc. is introduced to increase the reliability of the link. In recent years, it has become possible to build IP-VPN from a TV studio to a relay station using public IP network. Most of the DTT networks rely on SFN (Single Frequency Network) technology to utilize the frequency spectrum effectively, and SFNs require accurate synchronization throughout the broadcast network. We developed an IP transmission device that is applicable to SFN, introduced it to DTT network as a backup system, and made it possible to build a more robust network in DTT broadcasting.
