Evaluation of Multi-level Data Demodulation Using Convolutional Neural Networks for Holographic Data Storage

(in English) Holographic data storage (HDS) is a promising next generation archival memory with large capacity, high data-transfer rate, and longevity. We can improve the data capacity and the throughput by multi-level modulation code instead of the conventional binary code. However, the higher noise tolerance is required to capture the gray scale level accurately. In this work, we considered the demodulation method of multi-level data in HDS. Compared with the conventional hard decision method, convolutional neural network (CNN) which learned the noise characteristics could demodulate the reproduced data accurately and the bit error rate decreased to about 1/10.
