Control of water flow by gesture to synthesize with live-action video

(in English) In this research, we developed a method to synthesize interactively user-controllable water current with live-action video. This aim is to interactively perform visual expression that is impossible in reality, such as generating water flow around the human body and controlling its behavior. In the proposed method, motion of a user is acquired by a motion capture system, and water particles given arbitrary diameter and velocity are generated accordingly. The movement of this water particle is determined based on the behavior parameter including gravitational acceleration and the shape of the water flow is formed by Marching Cubes method using water particles as metaball. We also use projection mapping and refraction mapping for the visual representation of this water flow. The proposed method can generate video at interactive speed, and it can be used for stage presentation using games and VFX.
