Long-range maritime communication performances of LoRaWAN radio

(in English) In order to construct a collision avoidance system for small ships, the use of LoRaWAN wireless system, which is a type of 920 MHz band, is studied in this paper. In the conventional studies, the transmission characteristics for LoRaWAN in the sea had not been discussed so much. The RSSI, attenuation, and packet loss ratio characteristics communicating between a vessel terminal and a LoRaWAN gateway installed at an altitude of 720m had been analyzed.
As a result, although the packet loss rate was large, it has been confirmed that the communication was possible within a 60km range.
