Effect of half-occluded region on recognition of mirrors

(in English) Recently, vehicle mirrors (side view and rear view mirrors) are going to be replace with electrical mirrors (i.e., display devices). The characteristics of the electrical mirrors are different from conventional optical mirrors in many aspects and the differences can cause uncomfortable feeling to drivers. In this paper, we focus on the half-occluded regions in the peripheral areas of display and investigate the effects of the half-occluded regions on recognition of mirrors. We employed a HMD (Head-Mounted Display) to present virtual mirror objects having different conditions in terms of half-occlusion and binocular and motion parallaxes. Experimental results will be reported.
