Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, whereas the number of traffic accidents is decreasing, ratio of elderlies’ traffic accidents among all accidents is increasing as aging of Japan progresses. Likewise, ratio of fatal traffic accidents by elderlies is tend to increase in the decades. Previous research pointed out that cognitive function test score of elderlies who occurred fatal accidents is tend to be lower than that of elderlies who occurred no accidents. This indicates that cognitive decline of elderlies could cause risky driving behavior which would increase traffic risks. Therefore, investigating the relationships between cognitive decline and risky driving behavior of elderlies is an important issue for developing a screening test of potentially dangerous drivers. This enables us to support or retraining potentially dangerous drivers for preventing accidents in super aging society.
