Performance Evaluation on RTP Payload Mapping of JPEG XS to Reduce Image Quality Degradation

(in English) In an IP program production system, attention has been focused on a lightweight compression technology capable of transmitting images with high image quality, low latency, and efficient bandwidth utilization. So far, we have proposed and investigated a mapping method for the lightweight compressed signal to an RTP payload, which can reduce the degradation of image quality when a packet is lost. The proposed method was applied to 2K/4K/8K video to evaluate the effect of reducing image quality degradation and transmission rate. As a result, it was confirmed that although the average PSNR deteriorates when packet loss occurred due to an increase in frame size, the image quality of the decompressed image can be improved by the reduction effect of the proposed method on the image quality degradation. When the proposed method was applied to 8K video, the transmission rate increased by max 82.0 Mbps, but the transmission rate could be reduced to 0.25 Mbps by appropriately setting the RTP payload length.
