Translation from Line Drawings to Manga Using Deep Learning by Adding a Screentone Layer

(in English) The translation from line drawings to manga is one of the processes for creating manga and the automation of this process is motivating. In this paper, we tackle this translation task. Screentones have sparse patterns that are difficult to synthesize. To address this problem, we propose to use a screentone layer that renders an image with screentones based on the pixelwise screentone class label which is predicted from a line drawing. Experimental results show that proposed method produce manga that do not lose sparse patterns.
