Japanese armor has a special structure which consists of small plates connected by cords. It owns numbers of lovers all over the world because of its unique design. However, it is difficult to create an armor due to the assembly of a large number of fabrication parts, a great deal of labor and time are required in the fabrication processes. This thesis aims to model the unique patterns and structures of Japanese armors. For the geometry modeling, the proposed system provided a simple design user interface with the slide bars to adjust the values of patterns. The users are allowed to edit the plate shape by simply adjusting the sliders, and the created pattern structure is generated by parametric modeling. We implemented with Grasshopper, a plugin of the 3D CAD software Rhinoceros. The created armor structure is allowed to be manufactured by digital fabrication tools with the function of Rhinoceros. The main contribution of this thesis is to improve the plate parts design and the parts production efficiency of Japanese armor. |
