Study on ToF CMOS Image Sensor with Current Mode Background Light Suppression

(in English) In the three-dimensional distance measurement by the time-of-flight (ToF) method, background light often degrades the performance. Research on background light suppression is being advanced. However, in the background light suppression by calculation after charge accumulation, there is a problem that the charge accumulation part is saturated when the background light is particularly large with respect to the modulated light. In this research, in order to prevent performance degradation of ToF measurement even in the presence of very strong background light such as sunlight, a ToF CMOS image sensor that splits the modulated light component into four integrators after suppressing the background light component in the current mode is designed, and the ToF measurement performance and the background light tolerance are evaluated by simulation.
