Visually induced self-motion perception (vection) refers to a perceptive phenomenon in which a person might feel like himself moving because of visual information even though he is actually stationary. It is considered that vection can be repeatedly switched between "object motion perception" and "environmental movement perception" as a kind of bistable perception. It was also reported that the subjective vection strength could be modulated by experimental instructions and the semantic meaning of stimuli. In this study, we used the physical meaning of the stimulus to indicate semantic meaning and it is thought that the stronger the physical meaning, the easier it is to cause "object motion perception" and the weaker the vection strength. The present study is aimed to examine how vection changes when the subjective strength of "object motion perception" is gradually increased or decreased by using the cars stimuli which are always perceived as object motion in daily life. |
