Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) If one hand is reflected in a one-way mirror positioned along the midsagittal plane while the other hand is hidden behind the mirror, we felt as if the mirror-reflected hand were my hidden hand ("mirror illusion"). The present study investigated the time course of visual information on hand and foot position perception using this mirror illusion. Results showed that the magnitude of illusion decreased with time for about two-thirds of participants regardless of body parts while it maintained for 90 s at least for the rest. For the former group, the decreasing rate was higher in the foot than the hand. We discuss these results from the viewpoint of how much weight individual’s brain assigns to each sensory modality and prior knowledge in different body parts.
