Red luminescence excited by blue light in (Ca,Sr)5(PO4)3F:Eu2+

(in English) The red phosphor (Ca,Sr)5(PO4)3F:Eu2+ is reported. Under visible light excitation at 400–600 nm, broad red luminescence and afterglow from the 4f65d1–4f7 transition of Eu2+ were observed. It is possible to control the emission and its excitation wavelengths by adjusting the ratio of Ca2+ and Sr2+. In the case of 5 %-doping of Eu2+, Ca2+ : Sr2+ = 8 : 2 was the optimal ratio for the luminescence efficiency and afterglow time. Co-doping of Tm3+ to Ca5(PO4)3F:Eu2+ improved the afterglow properties. An afterglow time of 500 s was obtained for the Tm1%-doped sample.
