Fluorescent Spectral and Polarization Characteristics of Dye-Aligned Liquid Crystalline Polymer Films for Photosynthesis Promotion

(in English) To improve growth efficiency of crops, the development of agricultural film has been required: such films enable to promote photosynthesis by controlling wavelength and polarization state of emitted light. In this study, we proposed the solution-coated film having double-layered structure for wavelength and polarization control in large-area film. For formation of such film, we investigated the relation between molecular alignment and its polarization characteristics in the mixture films composed of liquid crystalline monomer having alignment ability and organic fluorescent dye. The rod-shaped fluorescent dye and red-light-emitted fluorescent dye were used for discussion of mechanism in polarization control and demonstration of compatibility as an agriculture film. As a result, we clarified that each fluorescent dyes were aligned along mesogen of the liquid crystalline polymer and their coated films emitted linearly-polarized light.
