A Study for Investigating Driving Characteristics While Using ACC System Based on Eye Tracking Device

(in English) Recently, semi-automated vehicles have been becoming widespread in Japan. Our previous study found out that drivers tend to look aside while using semi-automated system as well as physiological index corresponding to driver’s state of being relaxed increased. In this study, we focused on time-series change of driver distraction while using semi -automated system. In our experiment, we let each participant increase his attention by making unsafe lane change in front of his car, and analyzed how his driving behavior changed over time using eye-tracking technology as well as an electrocardiogram. As a result of our analysis, we have found out that driver’s attention towards surrounding vehicles significantly decrease when using semi-automated system as well as physiological index significantly increased in a short time even after he experienced unsafe lane change.
