Visualization of the monotonic region of curvature in cubic polynomial Bézier curves

(in English) Monotonically varying curvature is an important factor in designing aesthetic curved shapes. However, the curvature variation of freeform curves used in CAD systems for product design are not easy to control, and the search for a curve with monotonically varying curvature is time-consuming. In this study, for a cubic polynomial Bézier curve, we fix P_0=[0 0]^T and P_1=[1 0]^T and visualize the region of P_3 where the curvature is monotonically varying when P_2 is specified. The results show that the longer the length between P_1 and P_2 is, the wider the area of monotonically varying curvature becomes, except when P_2 is on the positive x-axis. In addition, except when the length between P_1 and P_2 is 0 or the angle between P_1 and P_2 is 0, the area of monotonically varying curvature becomes smaller as the angle becomes larger.
