Interactive System with Visual Feedback for Aerial Touch Display

A method to assist the manipulation of aerial images by adding visual feedback to touch interaction on an aerial image plane in an aerial touch display is proposed. In the case of aerial images in free space, it is difficult to accurately point to an aerial image with the finger for an observer with inferior depth perception. To solve this problem, a beam splitter was introduced to the light source for the aerial image to form the aerial image of the finger, which enables the depth position of the finger and the displayed image to be recognized stereoscopically. A prototype of the proposed aerial display system was built and evaluated by measuring the accuracy of finger pointing in comparison with the conventional method. |
