Memory Reduction of the Elemental Hologram Method Based on Combining Point Clouds

(in English) A rendering method for computer-generated hologram (CGH) using a ray-tracing method has been proposed to reconstruct images with correct occlusion relationship. In the rendering technique, a hologram plane is divided into Elementary Holograms (EHs) which reconstruct images viewed from different perspectives. Point light sources for calculating object wave propagation are obtained for each EH, independently; therefore, the technique needs large memory size for CGH calculation. To solve this problem, we propose a memory reduction method for the calculation of EH by integrating close point light sources. Moreover, limiting the number of EH which obtains point light source, we reduce CGH calculation time. We achieved about 94% memory reduction with only 1.8 times calculation time of that using the originally Elemental Hologram Method.
