Development of a Jitter Injection System for U-SDI Interface

(in English) We developed a jitter injection system for Ultrahigh-definition Signal/Data Interface (U-SDI). With the help of this system, system manufacturers that use U-SDI interface in their equipment can evaluate the stress tolerance for jitter in U-SDI signal receivers. This system consists of a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board and a jitter injection board. The FPGA board inputs, outputs, and analyzes the input U-SDI signal. The jitter injection board adjusts jitter characteristics of the U-SDI signal using crosstalk from an adjacent signal transmission line (aggressor) that is coupled to the signal transmission line of the U-SDI signal (victim) electromagnetically. We measured the jitter characteristics of the U-SDI signal from the jitter injection board and confirmed that this system can adjust the jitter of the victim by controlling the pre-emphasis, type of signal transmitted in the aggressor, and amplitude of the aggressor.
