Investigation of the role of alpha waves in information communication between brain regions based on gamma coherence using a mathematical model

(in English) In this study, we conducted simulation experiments using a mathematical model to investigate the relationship between inter-areal communication and $alpha$ waves. In the previous study, Quax et al. (2017) showed that the inter-areal communication through $gamma$ coherence, is adjusted by the $alpha$ phase difference originating from the pulvinar. Physiological findings show that the $alpha$ power changes with the control of attention, so there must be relationship between the $alpha$ phase difference and the power. However, this relationship is not clear, so we analyzed it. In addition, the Quax model is inconsistent with the physiological evidence regarding the presence or absence of input from the pulvinar and the $alpha$ power. Therefore, we propose an extended model to solve this problem. The simulation results show that our model can replicate the cardinal characteristics of the Quax model and are consistent with the evidence.
