[Invited Talk] Glossiness perception -- cues, reproduction methods using 3D images and quantitative evaluation, brain mechanism, and effects on facial attractiveness and the neural correlates --
Yuichi Sakano (NICT/Osaka Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) By virtue of the recent great advances in computer graphics technology, mechanisms for the perception of object material properties have been extensively investigated in the last two decades. The most well explored mechanisms would be those for perception of glossiness, one of the surface reflectance properties. However, little is known about effects of glossiness on higher mental processes. In this talk, I will introduce our studies on glossiness perception, especially about (1) binocular and dynamic cues, (2) reproduction methods using 3D images and their quantitative evaluation, (3) human brain mechanisms, and (4) the unique and rational effects of glossiness on facial attractiveness and the neural correlates.
