3D Shape Reconstruction of Living Environment using Visual SLAM

(in English) As a result of the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection nationwide from around March 2020, many people are being asked to refrain from going out unnecessarily and urgently, and the current situation is that they cannot go on trips. Even if the number of infected people of the new coronavirus infection has subsided, the number of infected people is increasing again every time a new mutant strain appears. In this way, even if the new coronavirus infection has subsided, if a new mutant strain or another infectious disease appears, it may be required to refrain from going out unnecessarily and urgently. In recent years, virtual reality (VR) technology has become more common, and you can easily experience virtual space with smartphones as well as devices such as dedicated goggles. Therefore, in this research, we will consider the development of a system that anyone can easily experience the feeling of traveling by creating a 3D model from a video on a smartphone using Visual SLAM and creating a VR space based on it.
