Acoustic analysis of urgency using noise-vocoded speech
Ryosuke Sakamoto, Yasunari Obuchi (Tokyo Univ. Tech.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, there has been a growing interest in speech that appropriately conveys danger. In this study, we focused on the sense of urgency and investigated the effective speech under the special situation of danger recognition by using a speech synthesis technology called noise-vocoded speech. In this study, we examined the differences created by using noises with different power spectra, and also focused on the changes in voice pitch, speech rate, and speaker differences. As a result, the impression was easily changed by the speed of speech, and the slower the speed, the more people said it was easy to hear, but on the other hand, the sense of urgency was almost lost. It was also found that there were cases where different noises were suitable for different speakers.
