A magnetic fluid is a mysterious liquid that has the property of being attracted to magnets, a property called labyrinth instability. When a magnetic field is applied to a magnetic fluid under certain conditions, it becomes a maze-like pattern. Currently, there are many artworks using magnetic fluids, but there are very few works using labyrinth instability. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate this property and expand the possibilities of magnetic fluid art. As an experimental method, a small amount of magnetic fluid is placed between two glass plates, a magnetic field is applied from directly below, and the results are observed. By this experiment, we will confirm whether we can actually form a maze pattern. As a result of the experiment, we were not able to reproduce the maze pattern using only magnetic fluid. However, we found that we could form a maze pattern by combining it with other liquids such as baking soda water. |
