A study on the evaluation method of driving skills for brain injury patients based on the driving simulator
Ryunosuke Hashimoto, Takeshi Kohama (Kindai Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The purpose of this study was to confirm the appropriate behavior of brain-injured patients when they resume driving and to confirm the points to be considered in rehabilitation guidance. We analyzed the driving simulator (DS) operation for young, healthy subjects and brain-injured patients in specific event scenes. The subjects were 117 brain-injured patients (68 patients in the resumed driving group and 49 patients in the non-resumed driving group) and 41 healthy young adults in their 20s who underwent DS driving evaluation. The results showed that the healthy group was divided into two groups according to the brake operation. The comparison of the healthy subjects with the resumed and non-resumed groups showed that the resumed group had a higher correlation with the healthy subjects in speed adjustment. In addition, there was a difference in braking operation between the resumed group and the non-resumed group, whose speed adjustment was highly similar to that of the healthy group.
