On OCT Volume Data Restoration by Introducing Inter-scale Thresholding

This study proposes a restoration model for volumetric data acquired by an optical coherence tomography (OCT) device.
An OCT device captures tomographic images of an object using a near-infrared laser and is used to measure the structure of biological tissue. Since various noises are superimposed on the observation signal acquired by OCT, noise reduction is required simultaneously with the interference waveform.
The authors have previously proposed a model for restoring OCT volumetric data using latent refractive index distribution and given a restoration method based on a hierarchical synthesis dictionary and the primal-dual splitting (PDS) method.
However, there is room for improvement in terms of restoration performance.
Therefore, this study proposes a model that introduces inter-scale thresholding to improve the performance.
Inter-scale thresholding is a noise reduction technique that uses parent-child relationships that emerge when signals are analyzed with a hierarchical analysis dictionary.
In this study, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulations using artificial data. |
