Adaptation of point cloud representation to facial light field display and subjective evaluation

(in English) To realize online communication that can convey emotions and feelings in the future, we have developed a light field display using near virtual-image mode, which is suitable for presenting faces. In this research, we introduced a point cloud to the light field display to synthesize a relatively realistic three-dimensional facial image using a depth camera. A subjective evaluation was conducted and the evaluation terms “feeling like being face-to-face,” “sense of affinity,” “attentiveness,” “sense of being,” “fatigue,” and “stereoscopic sensation” were higher for the three-dimensional images than two-dimensional images with significant differences.
