To realize online communication that can convey emotions and feelings in the future, we have developed a light field display using near virtual-image mode, which is suitable for presenting faces. In this research, we introduced a point cloud to the light field display to synthesize a relatively realistic three-dimensional facial image using a depth camera. A subjective evaluation was conducted and the evaluation terms “feeling like being face-to-face,” “sense of affinity,” “attentiveness,” “sense of being,” “fatigue,” and “stereoscopic sensation” were higher for the three-dimensional images than two-dimensional images with significant differences. |
