Laboratory Test of the Advanced ISDB-T System using Layered Division Multiplexing

Next generation digital terrestrial television broadcasting system has being conducting research and development to realize new services via terrestrial broadcasting. The system aims to provide a UHDTV services for fixed reception and an HDTV service for mobile reception simultaneously by using hierarchical transmission technologies within a single RF channel. LDM is one of hierarchical transmission methods which multiplexes mobile layer and a fixed layer in the power domain and it have an advantages over FDM/TDM when allocating more transmission capacity to the high robustness layer for mobile reception when required C/N is the same as current broadcasting. In order to verify the feasibility of the advanced ISDB-T with LDM, prototype modulator and demodulator were developed. This paper reports the result of laboratory test on measuring transmission performance on both fixed and mobile reception environment. |
