An Examination of Effective visual feedback for virtual grasping

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Visual feedbacks when grasping a virtual object that change the color of the fingers or the object are often preferred because users can feel the pressure, but they have not improved task performance. Therefore, this study proposes a method that changes the color from the fingertip (CFT) and a method that changes the color from the object contact point (COTP). Several visual feedbacks including the proposed methods were presented and evaluated quantitatively (grasping and releasing performance) and qualitatively (ease of grasping, preference, etc.). The results showed that CFT improved accuracy, and COTP was preferred by users because it was easier to grasp and generate pseudo-haptics than the other visual feedbacks.
