Differences in Impression Received from Various Aspect Ratio Images
Kosuke Nomura, Takenobu Usui, Satoshi Oode (NHK)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Non-16:9 aspect ratio content in which the aspect ratio had been selected based on a creator’s intent has been increased. It is thought that an impression received from the content varies according to change of the viewing angle of viewer. In case of mismatching aspect ratios in the content and display devices, the difference is thought to change well. We conducted an impression evaluation experiment using images with different aspect ratios that preserved the creator’s intent under conditions of a constant display area, and constant screen height or screen width when assuming mobile viewing. As a result, we confirmed that the difference in impressions is small when the display area is constant, while that in impressions which explains the “potency” factor becomes larger as the aspect ratio was changed to increase the display area becomes larger.
