A Study on Depth Inpainting Method Using Overlaid Depth Images

We propose a method to supplement sparse depth images acquired from a depth camera by overlaying temporally sequential image data, and inpainting the supplemented depth images. Firstly, multiple frames of temporally sequential depth images are converted into a point cloud, and then overlaid on the same coordinate using the camera's position information. Secondly, creating supplement sparse depth images by converting the overlaid point cloud to depth image, which is supplemented by other frames. Finally, from these images, a dense depth image is estimated using machine learning. The data set presented in the previous study was used to compare with that study, and it was confirmed that the depth image could be inpainted with higher accuracy than in that study. |
