[Invited Talk] Curved CMOS Image Sensors Developed by SOI Transfer Technology

(in English) We study flexible complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors that can be freely bent while possessing high performance such as high resolution and high frame rate inherent to CMOS image sensors. The CMOS image sensor can be made flexible by transferring the silicon CMOS device layer, which is less than 11 µm thick, onto a flexible plastic substrate. We have developed a fabrication technology for transferring CMOS circuits onto plastic substrates and have confirmed flexibility of the device and its operation in a curved state. Furthermore, we have designed and fabricated a readout circuit of the image sensor to demonstrate capturing images in a curved state and correcting curvature aberration. The developed technology contributes to higher image quality and smaller size of cameras, as well as brings new functions of flexibility to various devices such as sensors, logic circuits, memories, and displays.
