A Proposal of Lightness and Saturation Modification Method in RGB Color Space for Protanopia and Deuteranopia

(in English) People with dichromatic color vision characteristics perceive colors differently than people with trichromatic vision and may not be able to identify certain color combinations. Color conversion methods have been proposed to enable discrimination of such color combinations for dichromatic vision. However, there are problems: 1) hue conversion spoils the impression of the original image, 2) gamut correction is time-consuming due to the complex shape of the gamut in some color spaces, and 3) excessive lightness conversion degrades image quality. To address these problems, we propose a lightness and saturation modification method that preserves the hue of the RGB color space in a simple color gamut. Experiments were conducted to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to conventional methods.
