Radiation detection is a fundamental technique in wide fields ranging from basic science and medical diagnosis. The performance of radiation detectors strongly depends on the performance of the materials used in the detectors. In this lecture, the overview of our recent development of optical materials for radiation detection with some emphasis on the fundamental processes of ionization, recombination, and electronic excitation. The lecture will cover the development of novel scintillators, storage phosphors, and radiochromic materials based on organic and organic–inorganic hybrid materials. |
