Experiments on image recognition by optoelectronic deep neural network with scattering medium insertion

(in English) Optoelectronic deep neural network (OE-DNN) has been proposed as a solution to address the increasing energy consumption of deep neural network (DNN) technologies by replacing part of the computational processes in DNNs with optical calculations. This paper reports on a handwritten digit image classification experiment conducted using an OE-DNN, in which a scattering medium is inserted into the optical computation part. Specifically, the model characterizes the light propagation properties within the scattering medium using a transmission matrix (TM), enabling it to learn image features and perform inference on unknown images.
