Cartoon Style Conversion by Adding Onomatopoeias to Clapping

We propose a method to add onomatopoeias to real-world movements and convert them into a cartoon style in real time. In this research, we focus on a clapping scene and the system estimates an onomatopoeia in real time from the collision sound that occurs during clapping. The system places the estimated onomatopoeia at the collision position and visualizes it on an MR device. The system detects the collision position by using hand tracking and estimates the type and size of onomatopoeia by sound processing. Finally, the system performs cartoon style conversion by image processing. We conducted an evaluation experiment, and the system received positive evaluation from participants. We demonstrate that the system was able to construct a cartoon style world with a high sense of immersion by converting the real world into a cartoon style by adding onomatopoeias. |
