For the coming IoT society, we have proposed a CMOS image sensor pixel that can extract horizontal edge features in addition to RGB color images. However, horizontal edge features cannot capture vertical edges, which may reduce object detection accuracy. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a CMOS image sensor pixel that can extract edge features in two diagonal directions : −45 degrees and +45 degrees. Simulation results show that, compared to conventional pixels, the proposed CMOS image sensor increases the full well capacity by 19% and improves the conversion gain in feature extraction mode by 9%. Furthermore, the proposed pixels reduce the feature data size in an object detection models by 11% and improve object detection accuracy by up to 7.8%. |
