Automatic Classification of AI-Generated Images Using Data Hiding

In this paper, we propose a novel method to automatically identify AI-generated images from plain images by embedding identification data into the AI-generated images. The proposed method first divides an image into blocks and embeds the data in some of these blocks. On identification, Vision Transformer determines for each block whether it contains the embedded data or not. Based on the identification results for each block, a determination is made for the whole image. If the image is determined to contain the data, it is an AI-generated image; otherwise, it is a plain image. In contrast to general methods that embed such data at the image construction stage, our method carries out the data embedding process after image generation. Therefore, the embedding process is independent of generative AI models and can be used universally. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of both identification accuracy and marked-image quality. |
