Depth estimation technology is crucial in autonomous driving and robotics, where four key requirements—low cost, real-time processing, robustness, and wide applicability—must be satisfied. In this study, we propose a novel depth estimation method that combines a color-filter aperture with a tilted optical system to meet these demands. Conventional multi-view approaches rely heavily on calibration accuracy, while monocular methods using defocus require precise blur control. AI-based approaches that estimate depth from a single image using deep learning face challenges due to their dependence on large training datasets and limited generalization to unseen environments. To overcome these limitations, we developed a high-accuracy depth estimation method that simultaneously leverages disparity and defocus information obtained from a single image. |
